The White Rock Rhythm Kings is a dynamic trad jazz co-op led by rhythm section veterans Casey Tolhurst, Scott Robertson, and Don Ogilvie—best known as the powerhouse behind Red Beans and Rice. With decades of experience and deep roots in the Vancouver jazz scene, they bring the music of the 1900s–1920s roaring back to life, channeling the rebellious spirit of the prohibition era. Backed by a rotating front line of top-tier talent, including standout trumpeter and vocalist Glen Tremblay—whose credits include work with Michael Bublé and The Jazzmanian Devils—the band delivers swinging, high-energy performances steeped in the classic traditions of Louis Armstrong, Cootie Williams, and Roy Eldridge.
All three founding members have long been fixtures of the White Rock Traditional Jazz Society and have played countless festivals, club dates, and jazz events across the region. Scott Robertson also leads his own projects like Swing Patrol and The Scott Robertson Trio, while Casey and Don are founding members of Vancouver’s original Hot Jazz Club, dating back to 1972. Whether playing packed dance floors or intimate concert sets, The White Rock Rhythm Kings offer an authentic, rhythm-driven jazz experience that keeps the spirit of early jazz alive and thriving.
Trad Jazz
with Swagger and Soul

White Rock Jazz has been hosting regular Sunday events for three decades now. For over twenty years, Scott Robertson has been a staple on our bandstand. His bands, “Swing Patrol!” and “The White Rock Rhythm Kings,” have become two
of our most popular acts. Scott’s professionalism shines through in both his performances and when he contracts his bands. Our club members always fill the dance floor every time his bands take the stage.
